Great show, though kinda lousy sound quality. This is due to the fact that the original tape was rapidly deteriorating and according to Drew's original notes, the tape had to be put in new shell prior to transfer. Yes, this seed has noise reduction (applied via SF 4.5), but it's also the only known transfer, so we may never get a better version than this. Remember: this is relatively very newly surfaced. Sound quality is not that terrible, actually. The first part (until the cut on A Little Mozart) is the thoughest one: the instruments are understandable, but spoken parts and vocals are so low and muffled that it's almost impossible to understand them. After the cut it gets a little bit louder and clearer (even though the vocals are still muffled). I think it's musically one of the most interesting shows. The improvisations are inspired and so are the solos. They also have a bit of fun with the audience and play "Bacon Fat" twice (by request). Look out for the moment in which they play a delightful chaos by playing 7 songs at the same time, before quickly giving up and playing an outstanding version of "Trouble Every Day" (check out the ending part of the song... luckly this is among the clearests parts of the tape!). Also, it may not be relevant, but as I told Unicrayon today, "Cruising For Burgers" is a song that always makes me feel happy and life-loving.

Need Help In Finding A New File Hoster!

Hello all. I have been using Multiupload these past few months as my file hoster. But it seems that the upload function does not work on that site anymore! I am really bummed out by this. Does anybody know of a site similar to Mulitupload? Where you can upload a file to multiple filehost sites in one sitting? If not,I may have to stop this site for a while until I find a new filehoster.

Please help me out if you know of any sites. And no,I won't stick to one single filehost site,as you usually have to pay for a subscription. And if not,you are limited to only a certain amount of GB you can upload.

Thank You All!

Aud > ? > CDr(x) > EAC(secure, log included) > EAC (new track split, cue included) > FLAC(6)

One of the best-sounding Hawkwind recordings from 1973 (which isn't saying much!). It's also notable for the "festival" atmosphere, with recitations from Michael Moorcock & Robert Calvert, and a great 14-minute instrumental jam. The only sad thing is that it's clearly incomplete, since it cuts off in the middle of The Watcher (and they would have certainly played Master of the Universe next, perhaps after another poem).

Unfortunately, the transfer is somewhat flawed, with some odd (infrequent) level changes and some clipping (although not severely), but is still very listenable. There are a few short gaps at the start/end of some tracks (perhaps the taper turned the recorder off), but little music seems to be missing. Orgone Accumulator is clearly spliced in from an inferior source, but the (relatively) high sound quality is maintained for the remaining tracks. Most of the track indices were way off, so it was extracted as a single wav, then split with a new cue sheet.

Musicians;

LINDA LEWIS (born Linda Ann Fredericks, 27 September 1950, West Ham, London)is an English vocalist, songwriter and Guitarist.
Linda Lewis has a five octave vocal range.
She is best known for her cross-over music, also the singles "Rock-a-Doodle-Doo" (1972) and "Sideway Shuffle" (1973).
Also albums such as Lark (1972), Not a Little Girl Anymore (1975), Woman Overboard (1977).
Lewis also provided vocals for others such as DAVID BOWIE, AL KOOPER, CAT STEVENS, RICK WAKEMAN, ROD STEWART.
Lewis is a self-taught guitarist and keyboard player, influenced by HARRY NILSSON, BILLIE HOLIDAY and SMOKEY ROBINSON.
Her music blends folk, funk and soul.~ wikipedi

PRINCIPAL EDWARDS MAGIC THEATRE was a 14-member communal performance art collective in the United Kingdom made up of musicians, poets, dancers, and sound and lighting technicians.
The collective was originally formed at the University of Exeter in the late 1960s, and then was later based at farmhouse in Kettering, Northamptonshire.
The group was signed to John Peel's Dandelion Records and their single, "The Ballad of a Big Girl Now", was released in 1969.
Following the single was the release (under the same label) of two albums - Soundtrack and The Asmoto Running Band - the second of which was produced by Nick Mason of Pink Floyd.
The sometimes whimsical, sometimes epic (verging on progressive rock) writing style of guitarist ROOT CARTWRIGHT, was paired with the eclectic lyrical contributions of DAVID JONES, GILLIAN HADLEY and MONICA NETTLES, and was performed by vocalist VIVIENNE McAULIFFE.
The violin and recorders of BINDY BOURQUIN were another key element of the group's trademark sound. LYN EDWARDS, originally on bongos, took over on the drumkit.
Later, with a smaller nucleus (including new bassist RICHARD JONES from CLIMAX BLUES BAND) and a name-change to, simply, PRINCIPAL EDWARDS, they recorded a few new singles and a third album called Round One for Deram Records.
Most of the Deram recordings were also produced by NICK MASON.~ wikipedi

CURTISS MALDOON(DAVE CURTISS & CLIVE MALDOON)is a singer-songwriter duo from England.
They first began working together in the band BODAST in 1968 which also featured STEVE HOWE on guitar and BOBBY WOODMAN CLARKE on drums.
They recorded one album produced by KEITH WEST who was in U.K. psych band TOMORROW.
But it remained unreleased until it came out in truncated and remixed form in 1982 as 'The Lost Bodast Tapes'.
A full re-issue featuring the original 1969 mixes came out under the title 'Spectral Nether Street' on the RPM label in the 1990s.
Although not very active on the live circuit as they preferred to spend their time writing and rehearsing.
BODAST played a legendary show called the Pop Prom in 1968 where they were on the bill with THE WHO and acted as CHUCK BERRY's back-up band for the night.
CURTISS MALDOON were on Purple Records, the label started by DEEP PURPLE.
Their connection to DEEP PURPLE came out of DAVE CURTISS short-lived involvement with an early incarnation of the band known as ROUNDABOUT.
CURTISS was the vocalist and BOBBY WOODMAN CLARKE was the drummer.
No recordings have come to light of this line-up.~ wikipedi

*"Now the sets DO get imcomplete.
I only had 5 cassettes with me and I REALLY wanted to be sure to get as much of Osibisa as possible.
So for these three bands I started to conserve tape. NONE of these sets are complete.
In hindsight I might as well have taped their sets in their entirety as Osibisa never came on when they were supposed to and we left before they ever hit the stage :-(
It should be noted that I have never listened to this tape of these three bands barring a few seconds here and there to check that they all recorded properly.
So right now I am going on memories that are 40 years old.

At the time I was completely unfamiliar with LINDA LEWIS.
This would change over the next year or two when she seemed to be the opening act of every third band I went to see live it seemed.
And at the time (this is when she was still doing what she does here and not the more commercial stuff she did later) it would always be here and her guitar.
Playing what to my ears sounded like the exact same set each time.
So Linda Lewis... my mother and her girlfriend liked her. I did not.
I only taped a small portion of her set (she played for about 30 to 40 minutes total (all three of these bands played for similar lengths.
There was some reason why Osibisa's set kept getting delayed so these acts appeared to be coming on one after the other for whatever that reason was.
The upside was: the shortest breaks between bands of the entire evening!).
The audience seemed to like her well enough.
Put a black man or woman with an acoustic guitar in front of a 70's German audience and they will morew likely than not treat them with respect.
No whistling choirs or slow hand clapping.
It's one of them wacky German traits I noticed at concerts over the years ;-).
The only thing I remember about her was her huge afro.
Which even from the back part of the hall where we were looked huge.
It put the whole '80's concepts of "big hair" to shame.

PRINCIPAL EDWARDS MAGIC THEATRE... I had heard them on a sampler or three and liked what I had heard somewhat.
I may or may not had heard their first album at this point (It would have been within weeks either way of this show that I heard it).
I was kind of looking forward to seeing them as once again: in a few reviews I had read in NME and Melody Maker they sounded like a live band with potential to be a good live band.
For me the main problem was that the P.A. - It was just really hard to aurally and visually figure out what was going on.
At least from where we were sitting.
There was some "theatrical" stuff going on (coulda been dwarves dancing around the mini Stonehenge in the Spinal Tap movie for all I know - THIS particular set is what that scene has always reminded me of btw).
As three bands had to fit on one side of a C-90 to leave that second side for Osibisa (damn them!) you only get a taste.

CURTISS MALDOON... I knew nothing at all about them barring that they were one of the bands on Deep Purple's Purple Records label (which is probably why they were on this bill) and that therefore I was inclined to pay attention to them.
They were not bad at all.
Of the three bands here who's sets I had to cut to conserve tape this is the one band I wish I would have brought an extra cassette for, so as to not have had to cut their set.
Sure they were kind of similar to most hippie songwriter bands of the era but they were pretty good and stood a little bit above the rest.
Or maybe their hippie hats were a little higher than the rest, making them appear taller. Who knows?

And after Curtiss Maldoon we waited another 15 or so minutes to see if Osibisa would finally take the stage and then it was decided what with the icy roads (and an almost 1 hour drive back to Wuppertal over small and mostly unlit country roads and small towns in optimal weather conditions).
we walked back to the car at around 2am on a bitter cold Sunday morning."~ durian1

Henry Cow 1978-07-23 Cervia Ravenna (FLAC)

Henry Cow
=========
Cervia (Italy), Festa di Unita Proletaria, Ravenna
1978-07-23

AUD tape recorded by Giorgio Di Paolo (of band Asuma Rimna) who kindly gave permission

to share his recording and who said...
"my memories are vague, a very low-tech cassette recorder was used; I probably

connected the line out of a tape deck to some PC sound card".

Extracted to .wav by Maclen who sent me the .wav files, thanks to both of you !!
TLH says "tracks look like CDDA with probability 100%"

wav > edit (Nero 8) > TLH (flac + SBE / Decode check)

Editing:
Used better sounding left channel from this mono recording
Reduced volume by -4dB
Bass EQ +5dB
Inserted track05 from hte SBD source
Gap fixed in track06 (20.37-21.45 using SBD source)
Corrected ~ 200 volume variations
Fixed many nasty glitches in the Soundcheck
Edited and re-tracked for smooth track transitions
Added flac tags using fastone artwork, any change to the files will delete these.

Quality: Worth a historic A+
===========================

I was kindly sent this AUD source from the Cervia show, which is apparently new

compared to the high-gen SBD that has appeared many times here
on Dime, including a remaster of mine) and was surpised and delighted to hear a very

different and more dynamic mix. This is similar to the
Trondheim 1976 show, where the SBD mix sounds very dry compared to the FM version

(later found to be mp3 that was here a long time ago) on which
on-stage tapes being played by the band were very prominent and were completely missing

from the SBD.

So IMHO. this is a much better involving listen, whilst it also contains 2 more tracks

(03 & 12) and extra material on other tracks (00 and 06),
plus the continuous audience and announcements in between. To check the quality (and

tagging) I just listened on my Linn digital streamer and it
sound wonderful, so I hope you'll agree that it is really worth grabbing.

04. Liebeslied
05. Top of the mud
06. Mirror
07. Mr. Kraut´s jinx
08. Loosey girls
09. La Krautoma
10. Ludwig

Liner-notes:
1975 was the turning-year of Krautrock. Neu! split afer the release of their fabulous punk-orientated "Neu! 75" album.
Can released "Landed" in 1975 and "Flow Motion" in 1976 and presented are more lighter mainstream sound. Their hit "I want more"
peaked No. 26 in the UK charts: A sensation for a german band! Groups like Can or especially Tangerine Dream, had proved that they
could adapt to the different circumstances in music industry during the late seventies.
For a unique band like Amon Duul II, the pressure for international success was always on the hand. Despite the fact that they had
a great fan community in England, France and in other european countries, record producers like Jürgen S. Korduletsch trying
to define the direction of the band, both musically and aesthetically. Sure there was often a fight between the musicians and their producers.
Unfortuneatly the band itself consists of strong individuals, so the line-up was always changing. Of course, in the end, there was no strenght
to fight the producers ideas. On the other hand, Amon Duul II wanted to have this international success all the years ´round.
They started in Munich 1968, as a hippie community, recorded the first real Krautrock album "Phallus Dei", which lay the basis for all
to come german rockbands. In England for example their name hab become legendary, grounding a myth that last until today. In their
homeland the band was overlooked and underrated. For the early seventies there was no real german music industry for rockbands,
so Amon Duul II suffered because the lack of money prevented any plan going forward.
It was a logical consequence that they needed a new producer. Thie first result was the brilliant 1974 album "Hijack".
For this record the classic line-up had come into the studio, consisting of Chris Karrer (voc, guitar, violin), John Weinzierl (guitars),
Peter Leopold (drums), Renate Knaup (vocals), Lothar meid (bass) and Falk. U. Rogner (synthesizers). The result was a fresh and strong record,
fascinating and rich, the press reaction was aso filled with enthusiasm. It´s rather strange that this record nowadays had become
a stepchild by the band itself and also by the general musicpress. Maybe sometimes it gonna change again
In the beginning of the year 1975, the band had the chance to play in a german TV show, called Phonzeit and was held in a youth center
of the german town Dillingen. It was the last moment the classical line-up was playing together. The original video broadcast wasn´t available for years. There was a bad audio tape in circulation which
is now replaced by the better (despite the mono) audio-version of the video. Amon Duul II appearance here is extraordinary!
Most of the tunes are from the Hijack-Album, played in a relaxed and straight manner. One highlight is the spooky "Lonely woman" with Chris Karrer
as the leadsinger, playing a fine sax solo. "Surrounded by the stars" shines because of the violin-bass-guitar-synths collaboration. The sound of this TV gig in
general is really unique. Maybe the band released the complete Audio Tape official. "Surrounded by the stars" was interrupted
by the discussion of the audience with the band backstage. In th background you can hear the music roll on. It´s a shame that there
is no complete tape of the music in existance. In the end Amon Duul II playing an old german tune called "La Paloma", which is
linked to the next studio album "Made in Germany".
After the Phonzeit gig, the Music Express wrote about the new Duul project: "AD II goes to Broadway. For the next time 15 – 16 persons will be on stage, actors and
dancers. There are plans for serveral gigs in America, playing one month in Los Angeles at the Roxy Theatre and after in New York at the Beacon Theatre (Broadway) to promote their rockshow.
This teutonic shock is all about the history of Germany, which will also be the topic of their next Lp under the title SM II". Before the recording sessions started, Lothar Meid
leaved the band. For him two other Munich musicians were added. Robby Heibl (bass) who also played on 1973 album "Vive la Trance" and Nando Tischer (voc, guitar).
Before the official release of the double album "Made in Germany", Amon Duul II was going on a little promotion tour in June/July 1975 through France and played also some concerts in Germany.
During this tour the line-up changed again after some disagreements of the band members: The planned US-Tour was cancelled because of the failed organisation,
also the original album-concept had fallen to pieces. Many compositions weren´t used for this album. Another reason for the break was that the original plan, releasing a double album in the United States also
failed because of the sloppy management. The US-release (a single LP) was also separately mixed by Korduletsch in absence of the band itself.
Compared to the double album, the single LP contains some alternative mixes and longer versions of some songs.
Back to line-up change: Renate Knaup and Falk U. Rogner left the band. The remaining quintett was catched on tape during their Munich concert on 11. July 1975.
This rare tape documents the idea how the "Made inGermany" songs should have sounded live. Nando Tischer appeared here as the lead-singer, trying to calm down the unfriendly audience.
At one moment the bulk is screaming for "Renate", and Tischer had to explain that Renate is on vacation int he soputh, after an love affair with a boy. seems to be the last showdown after many internal argues.
Despite the bad sound of the tape, one highlight of this show is the long and atmospheric "Loosey girls". Also "La Krautoma" is a great rocker.
The official release of "Made in Germany" was in the fall of 1975:

The album is one of the first rock-operas in Germany about german history. Songs about Ludwig II and the Kaiser Wilhelm II,
an interview with Mr. Hitler: The whole album is a real masterpiece. Great powerful music with strange, experimental ideas. The band proved their ability to have a great variety of musical styles.

At this point the band itself don´t existed anymore, however the group reunited in 1976 again to play more relaxed music under the old name. And of course sometimes the old genius shines through. But that´s another story.
what´s left are documents of a uniqueband, that had the courage and the power in creating undefining music, that is still influental and touching today.

For this project the available music was remixed and mastered carefully.

All the best, Quinn (2011)

Iron Butterfly - Galaxy Club 1967 (FLAC)

IRON BUTTERFLY
Galaxy Club, Los Angeles, CA
1967

Lineage: traded CDR > Steinberg > Carbon-Hi-Space CDR > Flac > you

"A fantastic recording, hard and very, very psychedelic, sometimes strange."

This is an interesting tape. The original info said it's an audience tape, but I'd swear it is a soundboard. The stereo separation seems to great to not be a soundboard. How else could you have the drums in one channel and everything else in the other channel with only a little bleed through. It is a tad muffled, but otherwise the sound quality is great.

If all you know of Iron Butterfly is "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida", this 1967 show may be a shock. Recorded before their 1968 debut album, "Heavy", only four of these songs would be recorded in the studio. To once again quote the original info file that came with this recording, "very psychedelic, sometimes strange".
